Update

By melindam, September 13, 2008 1:45 pm

Many of you have asked for updates, photos, etc. While we were under construction, we posted much more frequently, and have not shown a lot of the “finished” product. Our plan in the next weeks/months is to do just that. Wonder if we should change the title of the blog now from “Home Under Construction” or keep it?
Some of the topics we want to cover are: our master bathroom shower, the backyard and garden, and our future plans for every area of the house, inside and out.

It has been over 2 years since we started this undertaking, and both of us love living in the house. We chose a neighborhood that really works for us, and the fact that all around us is development and growth makes us even happier to be here. We are constantly pointing out the renovations on our street, and the new restaurants opening nearby.

You can expect to see some more photos (need to find the camera!) and detailed posts soon, from both of us.

A Housewarming Party

By bsharwood, August 14, 2007 8:01 am

We have to thank all those who came by last Friday for our housewarming party. I was a fun night. It’s too bad we don’t have any pictures for it as we lost our camera a few days earlier in a Canoing incident in Temagami.

We are almost ready for a next burst of activity on the house now that we are very close (we hope) to having this financing behind us. All the things that need doing … main floor trim, gas lines, venting, stove hood, vanities, lights, 3rd floor hardwood. All coming to this site soon.

Slow progress

We have slowed the progress on the house while we work through some things. In the meantime check out Melinda’s blog on thing’s we’re doing in the city.

Kitchen Disappointment – Again

By bsharwood, May 14, 2007 11:17 am

So I chatted with Ed Calder this morning about the kitchen coming and now he says it won’t be here until next week – definitely next Tuesday he says. It’s disappointing. I guess this is par for the course on getting kitchens delivered.

He gave some lame excuse about his guys running off to Cape Breton and he’s waiting for the stain to dry.

And speaking of annoyances, our webhost has been changing his service around and that’s why the site has been down a lot lately. We apologize for the disruption in service. It hasn’t been working totally right for a few weeks, but mostly only for things we’d notice.Â

Some patio demolition and drywalling the pocket door

By bsharwood, May 13, 2007 9:21 pm

This weekend we did a bit of work on the house. We put some drywall around the pocket door and plastered and taped it in. It’s looking good.

Also Joe, our neighbour, let us his jackhammer, which he had borrowed from his work and we took down the most of the cement wall around our back patio.

Update: Finally we’ve uploaded the pictures! Here they are.

A year and a day

By bsharwood, May 4, 2007 1:42 pm

So our house closed on May 3, 2006. We’ve been at this for exactly one year now. This time last year we arrived at the house after work, to the nasty smell and started throwing things out. Our first post on the Home Under Construction blog was this one.

Today I worked on some plumbing, moving the drain for the toilet in the main floor bathroom into a new location so it will fit into the bathroom. Maybe over the weekend we’ll go and get some tiles and tile up the floor there. It will certainly be nice to finish completely the flooring on the main floor.

Anyone want to do a little survey?

By bsharwood, May 3, 2007 9:58 pm

Try this. It’s long, so don’t finish it if you don’t want to, but we’re curious who’s reading this.

Thanks.

Lost a post or two

By bsharwood, April 29, 2007 11:50 am

Our hosting service went down (we’re told we’re upgrading to Linux) so we lost a couple of the last posts.

I can’t remember specifically what they were, but one of them was the news that Ed Calder wasn’t going to get the kitchen done this week. We’re going to have to wait a week or two until he’s ready. As you can imagine we were a little disappointed, but we’re still excited for it to come.

Back from Vacation

By bsharwood, April 14, 2007 10:05 am

Yes, we’re back. We had a great time in Mexico, despite some issues with the food. Strongly suggest anyone going to the Mayan Riviara go diving in the Cenotes. The regular diving in the ocean was amazing too, with lots of sea turtles, barracuda and other great creatures.

We’ll be back to posting about the house soon. Keep watching.

A change of theme

By bsharwood, March 7, 2007 12:49 pm

I thought it was time for a change of look. I spent some time last night looking at the power of WordPress and figuring i needed to learn some more on how it works. It’s time to start adding things. Not sure whether anyone noticed but there’s also a little ad now down in left hand scroll bar.
