3rd Floor Hardwood

By bsharwood, November 15, 2007 10:37 am

So last Friday and Saturday Fred and I tackled the hardwood on the 3rd floor of the house. It actually went very quickly and we now have all of the hardwood laid in the house.

I know I promised pictures, and they are coming soon. We finally found the battery charger for the camera, so we’re ready to take pictures again with the camera. They will be up on the site soon.

3rd Floor Washroom – Tiles and Toilet

By bsharwood, June 13, 2007 11:23 am

We’ve been working on the 3rd floor this week and now we’ve almost got the washroom done. The tiles are in, the toilet is installed, and there’s just a lot of trim – and, of course, a vanity – something we don’t have yet for any of our washrooms.

Here’s a picture of the 3rd floor washroom as it is today.

3rd Floor

We’ve decided to take on some of the 3rd floor so yesterday I went out and got tiles and a toilet for the
3rd floor bathroom.

Last night I finished up some painting in the 3rd floor hallway and stair area in the same colour as the second floor. Today I tackled some of the floor of the bathroom. As you can see from the photo I came up 3 tiles short. Lots of spare pieces around, but with the big tiles you definitely need to get extra.

We’re excited for the kitchen countertops to come tomorrow. We’re also sharing a bin with our neighbours over the weekend to remove our concrete pile from the back of the house.

A year and a day

By bsharwood, May 4, 2007 1:42 pm

So our house closed on May 3, 2006. We’ve been at this for exactly one year now. This time last year we arrived at the house after work, to the nasty smell and started throwing things out. Our first post on the Home Under Construction blog was this one.

Today I worked on some plumbing, moving the drain for the toilet in the main floor bathroom into a new location so it will fit into the bathroom. Maybe over the weekend we’ll go and get some tiles and tile up the floor there. It will certainly be nice to finish completely the flooring on the main floor.

You asked for it!

Some hardwood and some grout

By bsharwood, March 20, 2007 6:58 pm

Today I was woken up early by a call from New Canadians who had a delivery of 15 boxes of hardwood outside the door at 7:30am as well as call from The Brick about 10 minutes later who said they were coming between between 1 and 3 with our new JennAir Stove.

The hardwood was left on the sidewalk so first thing in the morning I was moving all the boxes inside and opening them up so they can get site conditioned. There’s still a lot to do, but we’ve got them warming up. At around 10 Fred arrived and we worked the corner and bump that we fixed up the night before. It was a challenging few rows of woodlaying, but the wood seems to be going down well with no breaks or squeeking.

After we had that down we did some grouting on the back slate tiles we laid last week. It’s all looking good.

Before Fred left we moved the couch to the back of the house around the side and in the back door. It’s now in the main back area and we have somewhat of a living room!

Check out the cool designs one can make from shims and OSB!

Floor leveling on a Sunday afternoon.

By bsharwood, March 18, 2007 7:56 pm

After going shopping earlier today, and ordering the remainder of the first floor hardwood, Fred came over and we started leveling the floor at the bottom of the stairs. It’s got a huge dip in it and if we didn’t do some leveling it’d be a challenge to do the hardwood around there. We didn’t have enough shims to complete the whole job because it’s going to take a whole bundle.

Hardwood and New Pictures

I’ve finally put up some new pictures with the hardwood floor pictures on it. Fred and I worked on getting the hardwood all the way from the back of the house to half way down the kitchen. We’ve had to disassemble the sink unit to get the hardwood in but the fridge is back in place, on top of the hardwood.

Fred came over late in the day on Friday and cleaned up some bad plastering I had done on the bulkhead and kitchen closet and put another coat on. It’s looking better now.
