Well Bernie’s getting a bit of a bad rap around here. It’s been a few times now he hasn’t shown up when he said he would, and it’s been hot again and we still don’t have our air conditioner going.
Fred, however, showed up this morning and we started working on some door casings. We got almost all the main floor door casings and backbands on and Fred’s coming back tomorrow for doing a little more trim. Hopefully we’ll get some of the baseboards done and get the first floor looking more finished than it is.

So… it’s a day off from solar panels and so both Fred and Bernie are coming here to do some work. We’ll have some updates and some pictures when it’s done, but we should have A/C working by tomorrow night and maybe some door frames and baseboards.
Today I put a dimmer on the back room and connected up the plug outside the back door so we have the light working in the BBQ. Exciting stuff!
Ed Calder was supposed to come and finish our kitchen this morning, but as we suspected there was some excuse about paint drying – well stain drying to be precise. His wife phone and said he’d be there tomorrow morning. We’ll see. We had issues in the past.
On other issues, we’ve got John finishing off our HVAC system on Friday, and we’ve had to get a new electrician to change our permit so we can get our AC going, but that should happen in the next week.
Perhaps this weekend we’ll take a look at some trim for downstairs and maybe Fred can get that started in the next week or so. Things are moving again.
Yesterday Ed’s carpenters came in the morning and continued installing the kitchen. When they left at around 2 they had most of the stuff done but there’s still a bunch of trim and finishings they need to complete.
After they left I went to work to install the main floor powder room toilet. With these fancy toilets we have they are a challenge to install. It took a few hours and a few tile drill bits but it’s finally done.
The main floor is really looking good now.
Went to grab lunch and came back to lots more cabinets. Check ‘em out!

Update 2 11:15am: They’ve brought most of the cabinets in now. Our floor is pretty out of level, as is pretty standard in this house, but they seem to be making do with what they have. All seems to be going pretty well at this point.
Update 1 9:42am: They are here! Chris, the carpenter, and another fellow are now unloading the cabinets. They look good. I’ve started taking pictures and will post some soon.
We were up early (after perhaps too many drinks last night) to clean up the kitchen area. Ed called last night and said the truck was loaded up and he was ready to come and install. So we think it’s for real this time.
I’ll be trying to update the blog a few times during the day with pictures of the progress. Check back later in the day to see what’s going on.
MAN I’M ANNOYED!
I just called Ed Calder and he told me that it’s been delayed – AGAIN. I let him know how pissed off I was.
This is now in the range of months late! And i sat at home today and waited for him. The least he could have done was call!
So the last I heard from Mr. Calder was that if we didn’t hear from him that he’d be arriving on Tuesday morning. It’s now 11am and there’s no sign of him. So far I’ve been too busy catching up on work e-mails to follow up with him but I’ll blog when i hear anything. Keep watching.
